This is a beautiful countryside walk through some lovely little villages with various places to stop for refreshments.  Quite flat but can be muddy so take your boots.

Starting point: Carlton Corner Bed & Breakfast

Distance: 8 miles

Refreshments:

The Bell – Burton Overy,

Mint & Ginger Coffee Shop, The Manor, Tur Langton

Turn right out of the B&B and go up the hill until you reach a footpath sign on the left taking you into the fields.  Cross over 3 fields, and after the third field follow the marker down to the right to the bottom of the field.  Once you hit the tarmac path turn right and follow the path down to a large agricultural storage shed, follow the road round to the left and as the path meets a junction carry straight on with the hedge on your right hand side.

At the top of the field take a right and follow the boundary of the field up to the top corner.  Turn right and continue with the hedge on your left, cross two fields then head diagonally, following the path down into Burton Overy.

Follow the lane through the cottages and when you hit the road turn right walking towards The Bell pub (your first chance for a refreshment break).  Turn right at the road signposted for Carlton Curlieu and Illston, cross the cattle grid and follow the road for about quarter of a mile.

As the road curves around to the left follow the signpost straight on at the side of a farmyard, keep following the path keeping the hedge on your left.  At the end of the field take the little bridge over the brook and proceed up the hill towards Carlton Curlieu.

When you reach the road turn right and walk through the village, at the T junction turn right and proceed along the road.  Note Carlton Curlieu Hall on your left hand side.  Follow the road for about quarter of a mile then at the T junction turn left (careful this bit of road can be quite fast) and then take the next right onto a quieter lane.  Follow the lane for about half a mile following the road around to the left at the end.

Just after the turn there is a path off to the right, it’s signed for Tur Langton but be careful as it’s quite hidden in the hedge.  Follow the field with the hedge to your left.  At the junction at the end of the field continue straight on.

You are now on the outskirts of Tur Langton. Once you hit the road turn left then immediately right to the rear of The Manor.  The Manor is a lovely country shopping destination with various lifestyle shops and a small café, well worth a little wander round.

Continue down the path to the rear of The Manor (note the Llamas on route!)  Turn down towards the right following the footpath sign.  Follow the permissive path past the small lake with the hedge on your right hand side.  At a junction of footpaths carry straight on proceeding up the field.  Follow the path through 3 fields and in the final field follow the path around to the left and follow the sign through a gap in the hedge.

Go straight on through the last two fields until you meet the A6.  Turn right and follow the road until you reach the first road on your right by the Antique Automotive Sign Shop.  Turn right and follow the road to the end, at the T Junction turn left and you’ll see Carlton Corner on the corner.

Hope you enjoyed your walk!!

  1. If you want to make it longer, you can go past the bridle way turn until you reach a footpath which is also on the right. There are also detours to Church Langton.

I’ve managed over 1200 miles since the first lockdown starting from Kibworth so I feel I know many many routes! If you find me a new one I will be thrilled.

This is a really good idea!

    Best wishes

    1. Thanks Doreen! I think you’re probably more expert than me! But I’ll have a go. Also thank you for the added ideas to the lengthen the walk I’ll certainly try those
